Nothing really to be gained by either 610 or Sam Houston Tollway If you are wanting to get through Houston (Beaumont to San Antonio, for example), as much of a PITA as it is, I-10 is the only way to go. See I-10 every day and travel some portion of it most days. It's not bad (for me).Ģ003 41 ft Dutch Star Diesel Pusher/SpartanįWIW, I live about 1000 yards South of I-10 and about 2 miles from I-10 and I-610 (west intersection). I've driven straight through many times (MH with toad). From east to west, neither Loop 610 or Sam Houston Tollway (takes you WAY out of your way) will help you. Even better if you can hit Houston around 10:00. The freeway is fine, especially on the west side of downtown. Just go straight through town at that time. Traffic will be heavy, but it is also heavy on all the loops, but going thru on I-10 is the shortest way.Ģ003 Fleetwood Excursion 330 Turbo Cat 39D Busy, but DW was driving and no one was in a panic.Īdvice given to go straight on thru on I-10 at mid-morning or mid-afternoon is best. We just did it 2 weeks ago at mid morning and had no issues. Traffic was miserable in Houston area.Įdited 02/22/16 01:00am by an administrator/moderator * Toll booth access was very narrow and tight for our 100" wide 5ver. Think around $5.75 for 4 axles then drove 5 miles and charged again. Travelled Sam Houston tollway last March and charged by the axle. There' hardly any traffic on Sunday mornings. If at all possible, try going through on a Sunday morning. No matter what, you'll hit traffic, and sometimes the loops are worse. I tow a trailer of some sort pert near every day and have no problems. Most times it works beautifully.ĬOmpared to the east coast for the first 20 years of my driving, these folks are MUCH friendlier. Just roll down your winder, put on your blinker, give a nice big friendly wave asking to be let in. IMHO its easier at rush hour as the cars are moving slower so its easier to change lanes if you need to. Thanks.Ģ008 Silverado 3500HD Crewcab, Big Dooley, DuramaxĪt that time of day, your best bet is straight through on I-10. What's the best route through or around Houston? 610 north loop, 610 south loop, I-10 through the heart of Houston, or the Sam Houston Parkway/Tollway? Should be getting to Houston on a weekday around 9 A.M.
